Ivory paper polisher is owned by 74 year-old Abdul Rahim Maya Mohammed a 3rd generation paper polisher. Sheets from
kagzi
papermakers were dried on the walls with starch. When dry they were polished with an ivory burnisher atop a wooden support. Individuals from the Morka community in the Ahmedabad area used ivory to polish paper. In 1920 there were over 100 workshops (paper was often used for account books) but they stopped by the 1950's due to decline handmade paper use.
